The year is absolutely flying by and with the recent release of Sinners (review coming!), it has us amped up and thinking about movies yet to come out in 2025 that we are the most excited about. So here is our list!

Frankenstein (2025)

Expected Release Date: October 31, 2025

Studio: Netflix / Double Dare You Productions

Directed by Guillermo del Toro

Cast:

  • Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein

  • Jacob Elordi as The Creature

  • Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza

  • Christoph Waltz as Professor Waldman

  • David Bradley as Alphonse Frankenstein

  • Lars Mikkelsen as The Magistrate

Synopsis:

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is a haunting reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, told with the director’s signature blend of empathy, dark fantasy, and surreal horror. Set in a desolate, post-Enlightenment Europe, the story follows Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac), a brilliant but tortured scientist who creates life from death—only to abandon his grotesque yet sentient creation. The Creature (Jacob Elordi), yearning for understanding and love, begins a tragic odyssey that turns both man and monster into reflections of each other’s pain.

Final Thoughts:

Guillermo del Toro should be at his finest: lyrical, unflinching, and deeply human. We expect it to be a faithful adaptation and a bold re-envisioning—equal parts beauty and nightmare. We have high hopes for this film (Guillermo del Toro captured our hearts in his Living With Monsters display at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts).

Final Destination Bloodlines

Directed by Zach Lipovsky & Adam B. Stein

Expected Release Date: August 15, 2025

Studio: New Line Cinema / Warner Bros. Pictures

Synopsis:

Final Destination: Bloodlines marks the long-awaited return of the franchise that redefined supernatural horror in the early 2000s. This sixth installment digs deep into the origins of Death’s design, following Lila Morgan (Brec Bassinger), a paramedic-in-training who narrowly survives a catastrophic bridge collapse—only to discover that surviving the accident was only the beginning. As survivors begin to die in bizarre, elaborate ways, Lila uncovers a generational connection to the original curse… and the horrifying truth behind Death’s rules.

Final Thoughts:

Final Destination: Bloodlines look promising and may end up being the best entry since the original. It feels confident, creepy, and surprisingly thoughtful—without skimping on the over-the-top, Rube Goldberg-style fatalities that fans of the series expect.

28 Years Later

Directed by Danny Boyle

Expected Release Date: June 20, 2025

Studio: DNA Films / Searchlight Pictures / Sony Pictures

Synopsis:

Three decades after the original outbreak, 28 Years Later plunges viewers back into a ravaged United Kingdom, now a quarantined wasteland patrolled by drones and ruled by fear. When a new strain of the Rage Virus unexpectedly resurfaces in mainland Europe, a desperate international effort is launched to understand its origins—and prevent the apocalypse from finishing what it started. Amid the chaos, Jim (Cillian Murphy), long presumed dead, is found alive and burdened with a terrifying secret that could change humanity’s fate.

Final Thoughts:

We expect 28 Years Later to be a searing, stunning continuation of one of horror’s most respected legacies. Not merely a sequel, it’s a meditation on time, trauma, and the horror of history repeating itself. We expect top-tier performances, a razor-sharp script, and gut-punch visuals, and it to be destined to stand among on of the best horror film of the year.
